The Shin Bet and Israel Police are looking into the threats against the Prime Minister, found in a letter, saying 'the clock is ticking! You have a little over three and a half months'
The Shin Bet security service and Israeli police are looking into threats made against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after a letter was discovered on his brother’s grave at Mt. Herzl.
The letter is first addressed to his brother, Yoni Netanyahu, who was killed in Operation Entebbe in 1976. The author refers to “Pipi Netanyahu,” and the date of his Hebrew birthday, saying “the clock is ticking, until 28 of Tishrei, 5784, when your brother, the son of a bitch, thinks he’ll turn 74.”
The letter contains a number of expletives and profanities, and lists demands of the Prime Minister: To conquer Gaza, and to bring back the body of Hadar Goldin (a soldier killed in Gaza in 2014, to whom the letter’s author has a stated connection).
The author of the letter adds “Bibi, you are no Arik [Ariel] Sharon. Arik Sharon had a stroke and fell into a coma for eight years. To you, I wish worse things.” It ends with “you son of a bitch, Bibi, the clock is ticking! You have a little over three and a half months.”
Officials in the security establishment said that the letter did not refer to the judicial overhaul that Netanyahu’s government is promoting, and investigations into the letter are underway. A senior Shin Bet official said that they “will deal with the incident with all the tools at their disposal.”
