Want to go on a South African safari this year? Homestead is the new eco lodge to know about. Set to open within the next few months, the lodge has 12 suites on Nambiti Private Game Reserve, which is four hours from Johannesburg. The Maybourne Hotel Group – operator of Claridge’s, the Connaught and the Berkeley – will open its fifth hotel this summer. The Maybourne Riviera has been built on a rocky peninsula above the picturesque French town of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the Côte d’Azur. There are 69 bedrooms and suites with private terraces and sea views, as well as several restaurants led by a string of Michelin-starred chefs. Guests can explore the extensive grounds lined with citrus orchards and herb gardens, and relax in indoor and outdoor pools. Gleneagles Townhouse is a sister property to the famous Gleneagles Hotel. The opening date has been pushed back a few times, so we’re even more excited to visit when it does finally open its doors. With 33 stylish bedrooms, each nodding to the heritage of the building, the townhouse is a great option for a long weekend in Edinburgh. Edition Hotels is opening properties in Tampa, Rome and Madrid this year. We’re most excited about the latter, near Puerta de Sol in Spain’s capital. Within walking distance of Madrid’s ‘golden triangle’ of art – three of its most important museums – the hotel has 200 rooms and suites, some with terraces offering beautiful city views. There’s also a fitness centre and spa with an outdoor pool, five restaurants and cafés, a cocktail bar, and a rooftop terrace where guests can enjoy cocktails after a day of sightseeing.

Regular SL readers will know we love the Standard in London, so we were pleased to hear the group is opening two more locations this year – Hua Hin in Thailand and Ibiza. On the main plaza in Ibiza’s Old Town, the latter promises a great location for a long weekend on the party island. A total of 67 rooms and suites will be open year-round, including a separate residence, Casa Privada, where large groups can make use of a private pool, gym, spa and bar. We’re already anticipating poolside parties around the main hotel’s rooftop swimming pool and cocktail bar.

The Signet Collection is the group behind SL-favourite The Mitre Hampton Court. It’s opening The Retreat Elcot Park in west Berkshire this spring. In a Grade II-listed 18th-century building (once home to romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley), the hotel has 55 individually designed bedrooms, plus impressive grounds with views of the Wessex Downs. There will be two restaurants (an all-day brasserie and a pan-Asian restaurant), as well as a whisky tasting room, tennis courts, and an outdoor infinity pool, complete with a Whispering Angel bar. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a spa, and a courtyard housing a bakery, coffee shop, hair salon and wine store. Easily reached from London via a 45-minute train journey, we’ve already bookmarked it for a staycation later this year.

Regent Hotels is opening its first luxury resort in Vietnam. It’s set on Long Beach on Phu Quoc Island – commonly referred to by those who’ve been as a ‘secret paradise’. The island is a Unesco World Biosphere reserve and nearly half of it is a beautiful national park where visitors can discover exotic flora and fauna. The hotel itself has 176 suites and 126 villas designed to blend into the surroundings, with floor-to-ceiling windows and earthy décor throughout, as well as six restaurants, a cocktail bar and spa.

NYC’s Crown Building – formerly home to the Museum of Modern Art – has undergone a huge transformation to become the latest Aman hotel. Blending modern design with the building’s striking original features, Aman New York consists of 83 hotel rooms, as well as restaurants, a garden terrace and bar, a private members club, three-floor spa, jazz club and wine room. We love the look of the al fresco pool, which offers excellent views over the city.

Capri’s first hotel has been transformed by Oetker Collection into Hotel La Palma. Designer Francis Sultana is responsible for the elegant décor, including the glamorous swimming pool. The 50-room La Palma also has a rooftop restaurant and bar, a spa, several high-end fashion boutiques and its own beach club, which will host day-to-night parties for hotel guests and visitors. Capri’s southern coast is only a short drive away, too.

In Oslo’s West End, Sommerro is set to be the Norwegian city’s first art-deco hotel. Housed in a former 1930s building, there are 230 rooms, including 56 residences in an adjacent building for guests who want to stay in luxury apartments. Rooms are richly decorated with plush furniture, four-poster beds and marble en-suites with rainfall showers or free-standing baths. The Hoxton is opening four new hotels in 2022: Barcelona, Brussels, Berlin and Shepherd’s Bush in London. Set to launch towards the end of the year, the Brussels property is set in a historic building with nearly 200 70s-inspired rooms. In classic Hoxton style, bedrooms come with lots of art deco accessories and a mixture of contemporary and vintage furniture. There will also be a bar and restaurant, a rooftop bar and a spacious co-working space to take advantage of.

Among the capital’s most exciting 2022 openings, the historic Grade II-listed Old War Office has been transformed by Raffles London. The OWO will house 11 restaurants and bars, each with a different vibe – imagine post-work cocktails, Saturday night dinners and causal drinks with the girls. The 120 rooms have been designed by renowned French architect Thierry Despont, while interior design studio 1508 London is in charge of the on-site residences. An extensive wellness space will also house a modern spa, indoor pool and fitness area, while the rooftop bar promises panoramic views across Whitehall and Buckingham Palace.

London’s first Martin Brudnizki-designed hotel is set to open in Soho at the end of the year. The renowned interior designer, who has transformed spaces like Annabel’s, Aquavit and Daphne’s in London, has created an opulent Soho townhouse with 57 rooms.
