Military steps up range of joint exercises as tensions escalate
SEOUL — South Korea’s military has conducted defensive drills on islands near North Korean territory for the first time in six years, marking one of the biggest live-fire exercises staged in the border region.
Personnel from the army, navy, air force and marines held drills on South Korea’s western islands in the Yellow Sea, including Baengnyeong and Yeonpyeong, according to local media.
