195 students from 104 educational institutions1 received a total of 206 Special Awards. Made possible by private donations from founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong, the Special Awards aim to recognise students’ diverse achievements in both academic and non-academic spheres, including their contributions to the community. The awards were presented by Second Minister for Education Dr Maliki Osman at this year’s Special Awards Presentation Ceremony on 29 August 2022 at the National University of Singapore’s University Cultural Centre.
2. This year, four students clinched multiple awards. Former Hwa Chong Institution student Ms Lee Ru Ye Laura received accolades for bilingual and bicultural proficiency, as well as all-round achievement. Ms Jamie Lim Jia Sin from the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science received awards for well-rounded achievements, as well as excellence in Mathematics and Science. Former Temasek Polytechnic student Ms Lim Yun Shi Krystal was similarly recognised for achievements in Mathematics and Science, as well as for her dedication towards upgrading and lifelong learning. Ms Nurqistina Atiqah Binte Abu Bakar, formerly from ITE College East, received accolades for good academic and all-rounded performance.

These institutions include 19 SPED schools, 24 primary schools, 47 secondary schools, five junior colleges, five polytechnics, three ITE colleges, and the National University of Singapore.
All six recipients are also recipients of the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading.
