Former Connecticut Estate of Artist Robert Motherwell Changes Hands
In upscale Greenwich, Connecticut, the former estate of the late artist Robert Motherwell, who is considered one of the founders of abstract expressionism, has sold for $2.5 million. The final sale price is 28% more than the 4-acre property was originally listed for. A more than 13,000-square-foot main house sits at the center of the estate, complete with 10 bedrooms and six bathrooms. Dearth of Listings is Bad News for Buyers in Boston
The market isn’t being kind to buyers in the Greater Boston area, as the lack of listings had home and condo sales sliding and prices climbing in October. Sales dropped to their lowest level for the month in 12 years, according to the Greater Boston Association of Realtors. Last month, single-family home sales fell 12.6% year over year, marking the slowest October for the property type since 2011, and the17th month in a row that single-family home sales fell on an annual basis. Home Construction in the U.S. Picks up Steam
Construction of new homes rose 1.9% in the U.S. in October, as builders amped up new projects. The pace of construction increased as builders saw a pressing need for more housing units, with the resale market continuing to deal with a shortage. Housing starts rose to a 1.37 million annual pace from 1.35 million in October, the government said Friday. That’s how many houses would be built over an entire year if construction took place at the same pace every month as it did in October. MarketWatch
