Sustainability of the Preservation of Digital Media Experts Meeting
In February, we welcomed a group of over 30 artists and international experts in the fields of conservation, digital preservation, archives, and film studies to discuss the future of sustainability in the preservation of digital media.
Interdisciplinary discussions and activities explored bridging gaps between related but disparate fields, navigating barriers to preservation in various global regions, and developing educational frameworks.
Participants collaborated on identifying functional areas for digital media art preservation and establishing sustainable criteria for measuring their success. Those in attendance will be part of a network that will advise on and contribute to future endeavors supporting the advancement of time-based media preservation.

VISITING COLLEAGUES

American School of Classical Studies at Athens
In January, we welcomed colleagues from the American School of Classical Studies at Athens: Prof. John Papadopoulos (director), Maria Tziotziou (conservator) and Ioanna Damanaki (project manager) as well as consultant architect Maria Kaltsa.
Their visit was to discuss the renovation of the storage facilities for the collection from the Athenian Agora excavations housed at the Stoa of Attalos Archives, Research, and Storage Center.
To support this visit, our Collections Department staff organized a comprehensive itinerary with visits to various collection storage facilities in Los Angeles, including those at the Getty Center and Getty Villa, the Fowler Museum at UCLA, and the Autry Museum of the American West. These visits provided valuable insights and comparisons for ongoing discussions and potential collaboration between the Conservation Institute and the American School at Athens’ Stoa of Attalos Center.
