It’s Cheaper to Rent Than Buy in the U.K.
It remains significantly cheaper to rent than buy in the U.K., with potential buyers paying on average £300 (US$380) more per month than they would if they kept renting. Unsurprisingly, London residents face the sharpest burden with home purchases costing an additional £775 per month, compared to continued renting. The cause of the disparity? Elevated mortgage rates, of course. City A.M.
New Home Prices in China See Biggest Slide in Almost a Decade
China’s property market rescue package appears to have done little to save new development values. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the prices of new homes in 70 medium and large Chinese cities fell 0.7% month over month in May—the sharpest monthly decline since a 0.8% drop in October 2014. On an annual basis, prices in those same cities were down 4.3%. South China Morning Post
Massive Sinkhole Threatens Chile Luxury Building
Heavy rains in Chile have created a sinkhole that’s nearly 50 feet long and 100 feet deep beneath the Euromania II luxury residence in the resort city of Vina. Located only a few feet from the beach, the 13-floor, 200-apartment building, where residences are valued up to US$500,000 apiece, has been evacuated, as have surrounding homes, for fears that the building may collapse. It’s the third such sinkhole to appear in Vina, a city of luxury resorts, located on a 28-hectare dune field. The dune field was a state-protected nature sanctuary until 1994 but a change in regulations allowed for high-density construction in the area, and 44 luxury residences have since been built in the region. South Australia’s Largest Dog-Breeding Facility—With a Four-Bedroom Home—Hits the Market
Some wealthy investors buy homes with functioning wineries. Others prefer canines over vines. Cute Country Cavoodles, the largest dog-breeding facility in Southern Australia, has hit the market for A$1.5 million (US$990,000), a price tag that includes 3.74 hectares of land, a four-bedroom residence, an office block with a grooming salon, an apartment for guests—and 17 air-conditioned kennels with 84 dogs. The new owner would need to continue the breeding business as the seller is leaving behind a waiting list of 210 puppy-expectant customers. realestate.com.au
