More Than Half of U.K. Tenants Want Rent Controls
According to a survey conducted by Generation Rent, an advocacy group for U.K. renters, more than half of the U.K.’s private renters (55%) support some form of government-induced rent controls. This position puts them at odds with the majority of private landlords, who, unsurprisingly, oppose any government intervention on rental pricing. The same number of tenants—55%—told Generation Rent that they have experienced rent price increases over the past two years. PropertyWire

Australian Car Lovers Should Head to Tasmania
Real estate data analyst PropTrack set out to find the Australian suburbs that had the most to offer car lovers, in the way of parking spots, and the title went to Tasmania. The city’s suburbs of Forcett and Acton Park shared the No. 1 spot, with properties in these areas typically offering eight parking spots on average. Four New South Wales suburbs (Annangrove, Razorback, Nowra Hill, Wamboin) were next on the list with homes typically providing six parking spots apiece. As one might expect, the parking spot-rich properties tend to be in semi-rural suburbs with ample space for sizable garages. realestate.com.au

Cash-Rich Investors, Celebs Are Buying Hong Kong’s Post-Curb Property Market
Savvy investors, celebrities and the cash-wealthy buyers are descending on Hong Kong’s property market, offering some optimism for the city’s luxury sector. The removal of decade-long market-curbing measures has drawn the affluent off the sidelines as prices fall and deals become possible. Francis Yuen Tin-fan, former deputy chairman of PCCW and CEO of the Hong Kong stock exchange, purchased a two-bedroom flat in Pok Fu Lam’s Bel-Air residences for HK$15.2 million (US$1.9 million) in May, after negotiating the price down more than 20%. In the same month, Hong Kong actress Ada Choi Siu-fan dropped HK$44 million for a 2,562-square-foot house in Yuen Long. South China Morning Post

You Can Have This Mansion for Free—But You’ve Got to Take It to Go
The historic Hood Mansion in Limerick, Pennsylvania, can be yours for nary a cent; it just can’t stay where it is. Built in 1834, the 17-room mansion, which is said to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad, is in some state of disrepair, yet maintains a lot of its original elements—and moreover the price is right. The property is free for the next owner, but it can’t stay on its current 113-acre lot, where the current owner plans to build a warehouse. The “buyer” would need to move the property to a new locale—and therein comes the cost. “We’re looking at probably around $700,000 to a million [dollars] to move the home, depending on the distance traveled,” said Tyler Schumacher, president and founder of the Eastern Pennsylvania Preservation Society.
