CNA’s best current affairs and documentaries
If you’re a regular viewer of Talking Point, you’re going to notice some fresh faces fronting our show. Introducing a new strand of episodes tagged as #mystory – in which we tackle issues facing today’s youths, through the eyes of our producers who are in their 20s and 30s.
In the first #mystory, Producer Charmaine Tan delves into the life coaching industry after learning how some of her peers are turning to such coaches. She tried out one session herself, despite having “always been sceptical about life coaches”.
|
“I really wanted to resolve my body image issues. The trade-off was that this would be done on national TV. I wasn’t that bothered at first… but just 30 minutes in, I broke down answering a question,” said Charmaine. “What surprised me most was how the session felt like therapy.”
So, can life coaching give us short-cut solutions to our problems?
Another upcoming #mystory takes a raw and honest look at how our youths may be lonelier than we think. Producer Chan Luo Er (below, left) has a fulfilling job and an active social life – but at one point in her life, she felt alone.
|
A survey by the Institute of Policy Studies has found that adults in Singapore aged 21 to 34 are more likely to be lonely compared to other age groups.
What interested Luo Er most to discover was “how being lonely makes you less rational; you start to spiral, self-isolate, and end up lonelier than ever… It’s also hard for the many young adults I spoke to tell our loved ones that we need support.”
If you want us to explore more youth-related topics, email your ideas to TalkingPoint@mediacorp.com.sg. We hope our producers’ personal stories will help you open up conversations with your own peers or children.
