Olokpe of Okpe Kingdom in Akoko-Edo Council of Edo State, Oba Okhishimede Eshimokhai Idogu III (OON), has sent condolences to the British monarch, King Charles III, on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
In a letter personally signed by him, the monarch observed that the reign of Queen Elizabeth II was peaceful and brought progress and worthy legacies to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
While informing the new British monarch of the long cordial relationship that exists between Buckingham Palace and the Okpe Royal Family, Oba Idogu III stated: “Recall that my late father, His Royal Highness, Oba Patrick Eshimokhai Idogu II (MBE), the Olokpe of Okpe, following an official invitation by the Earl Marshal, was personally at Westminster Abbey to witness the coronation of Her Majesty on the 2nd of June, 1953.”
The Edo State traditional ruler added that his late father was conferred by Her Majesty with the royal honour of Member of the British Empire (MBE), together with the then Ooni of Ife, His Royal Highness Oba Adesoji Aderemi, both of whom were specially selected to represent the old Western Region of Nigeria at the coronation in 1953.
He pledged to sustain the relationship between Buckingham Palace and his kingdom, and prayed God to imbue the British monarch with wisdom, strength and good health to carry out his responsibilities.
