Royal expert and former advisor on US/UK relations, Lee Cohen, spoke to Express.co.uk about Camilla becoming Queen Consort and how the news has been taken in America. Mr Cohen believed Camilla would become an “enormous asset” for the UK when Prince Charles takes the throne as she will allow him to carry out his duties with sufficient support. The former advisor added how Camilla’s humanitarian work will benefit the UK internationally and listed off how she would be effective in her new role.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Cohen was asked how the news of Camilla becoming Queen Consort has been taken in the US and whether he believes she deserves the role.
He explained: “Clearly, the Duchess of Cornwall makes the heir to the throne happy.
“She bolsters him and gives him confidence similar to how his grandmother supported George VI, and his great-grandmother supported George V.
“Considering he will one day be head of state and nation, Camilla’s value in keeping her husband happy, engaged, and focused is actually an enormous asset for Britain.”

Mr Cohen then analysed the Duchess of Cornwall’s charity work and how her demeanour will help the UK.
He continued: “Since they have been a married couple, the Duchess has acted professionally and admirably and has shown that she is sincerely devoted to the causes she champions.
“Such as domestic violence, animal welfare osteoporosis, one could if one wanted draw a stark contrast between Camilla’s approach and that of the Sussexes.
“The latter seems to choose their causes through the litmus of if it will gain them publicity.
“This is completely the opposite of Camilla who has, according to recent opinion polls, made great strides in improving her popularity.
“People sense she is genuine with her down to earth charms, she has become a real asset not only for Charles but for the future of the monarchy, especially in its necessary mission to connect with the British and foreign public, and even the press, which she handles artfully.”
The Queen announced it was her “sincere wish” that Camilla would become Queen Consort when Prince Charles ascends the throne.
Royal fans were sceptical over whether Camilla would take the title or would be known as “Princess Consort” considering the sensitivity surrounding Princess Diana.
In the statement, the Queen wrote: “I am fortunate to have had the steadfast and loving support of my family.
“I was blessed that in Prince Philip I had a partner willing to carry out the role of consort and unselfishly make the sacrifices that go with it. It is a role I saw my own mother perform during my father’s reign…
“And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”
A survey conducted by JL Partners showed 55 percent of Brits are in favour of Camilla being made Queen Consort when Prince Charles becomes king, almost twice as many as are opposed to it.
The same survey, saw Camilla’s popularity jump up to a personal rating of plus 21 points, 16 more than last year.
