The New York Times sparked fury after launching another “sneering attack” on the Queen‘s funeral. Commentator Nile Gardiner hit out at “America’s hate-filled woke left”, describing it as “tedious, nasty and unpleasant”. This came after the New York Times wrote an article about the expected cost of the Queen’s funeral.
It said: “The British government has not yet disclosed how much Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday will cost, saying only that it would provide details “in due course.”
“But the price tag, which will involve elaborate processions, vigils and rituals, is expected to be significant and will be covered by the state.
“Even adjusted for inflation, her funeral is expected to cost more than the last state funeral in Britain, that of Winston Churchill, in 1965, and the ceremonial funeral for Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, in 2002.”
It pointed out that the funeral’s “hefty price tag” comes amid a cost of living crisis in the UK.
King Charles III is expected to appoint Archie and Lilibet Prince and Princess, but they will not be given HRH status.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly “furious” about the titles their children will receive, following the death of the Queen.

The paper also pointed out a “lack of transparency around the royal family’s finances, including that its members are not subject to inheritance tax.”
Hitting out at the article, Mr Gardiner wrote on Twitter: “The sneering attacks on Britain and the Monarchy from The New York Times and America’s hate-filled woke Left are tedious, nasty and unpleasant.
“They may appeal to a small audience of elite Socialists, but the vast majority of Americans, who love the Queen, will not be impressed.”
The paper faced a wave of backlash after the article was published, with some readers threatening to cancel their $17-a-month subscriptions.
The article follows a previous New York Times opinion piece, published in the wake of the Queen’s death, which accused Her Majesty of helping to “obscure a bloody history of decolonisation whose proportions and legacies have yet to be adequately acknowledged”.
The piece, written by Maya Jasanoff, a professor of history at Harvard University, went on to reflect on how people “may never learn what the Queen did or didn’t know about the crimes committed in her name”.

“Disappointing.
“I subscribed for five years, but you’ve confirmed the wisdom of letting it go.”
Another, Robert Corbishley (@robcorb) replied to the story about the price of the funeral saying: “Less per person than the price of one copy of your ‘newspaper’.”

Meanwhile, journalist Tom Harwood wrote: “The British Government just committed north of £100b to help with the cost of living.
“The Queen’s funeral will cost a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of that.
“You absolute ghouls”.
Another Twitter user, @Siamese5, added: “Show some respect to the Woman who gave her Life to Service.”
While Steve Chadwick wrote: “It’s been 70 years since the last one – I think we’ve got this.”
