The monarch sadly passed earlier today following the news that she was under care in Scotland.
England lost its leader, Queen Elizabeth II, earlier today, when she sadly passed away at age 96. Buckingham Palace was the first to report the tragedy, confirming on its socials that she died:

Kate Middleton and Prince William received the deeply disheartening news and will inevitably talk about the Queen in a statement when the time is right, although they have posted the following on their own social media account:
A post shared by The Prince and Princess of Wales (@princeandprincessofwales)
They also retweeted the news from the royal family’s Twitter account:

Just today, it was reported that Kate would be remaining in Windsor with her three children, all of whom began school on Wednesday, while other members of the royal family head to to Balmoral, Scotland, where the Queen was being taken care of. Her husband, Prince William, who is second in line to the British throne, made the voyage to Scotland promptly after leaving Adelaide Cottage earlier today. It was also announced that Prince Harry, too, is en route in order to be surrounded by their and Queen Elizabeth’s loved ones.
The world was shocked by the news that the monarch’s health was deteriorating, after the following 29-word statement from Buckingham Palace was issued: “Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.” Earlier in May, the palace had announced, “The Queen continues to experience episodic mobility problems” following her hospitalization for the first time in years last October—after which she was forced to cut back on public engagements.
While the message underscored that Queen Elizabeth was “comfortable,” her sons Prince Andrew and Prince Charles, along with Charles’s wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, immediately made their way to her side. An official source also confirmed, “The Earl and Countess of Wessex [the Queen’s other son, Prince Edward, and his wife Sophie] are traveling to Balmoral. The Princess Royal [the Queen’s daughter] is already there, having been undertaking engagements in Scotland.”
