Harlow Council has joined the nation in mourning, following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which was announced on Thursday 8 September 2022.
Our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt sympathies go out to His Majesty The King and the Royal Family. The flags outside the Civic Centre are flying at half-mast as a mark of respect.
This is a time when the country will unite, to stand together to remember The Queen and support His Majesty The King and The Royal Family.

There are ways you can express your condolences and your messages of support for The Royal Family at this difficult time.
On this is the day the new Sovereign was proclaimed at 11am. The ceremony took place at St James’ Palace in London. At 11am the Union Flag outside the Civic Centre was raised to full mast and flown throughout the day.
Following a regional proclamation in Chelmsford at 1pm, a proclamation was made at 2pm from the balcony of the Civic Centre. This was read by the Chair of Harlow Council who was joined by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Essex.

The State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey (20 Deans Yd, London SW1P 3PA) on Monday 19 September at 11am.
Before the funeral, The Queen was lying-in-state in Westminster Hall (3 St Margaret St, London SW1P 3JX) for 4 days, to allow the public to pay their respects.
The day of the state funeral was announced as a bank holiday.

Books of condolence opened on Friday 9 September 2022 at Harlow Civic Centre and the Latton Bush Centre for people to pay their respects.
The books will remain open until 5pm on the day following the funeral.
9am to 4.45pm Monday to Friday.
8am to 8pm Monday to Friday.
9am to 4pm on Saturday.
Mourners wishing to gather together and lay flowers can do so at The Obelisk in Broad Walk in Harlow town centre.
