James Bowes will be introduced as the next finance director during the Town Council meeting Monday, according to the meeting agenda. Bowes had formerly worked in that post in Southington for 11 years. He then worked as town comptroller in Wallingford, retiring last year after more than 16 years’ service.
Bowes replaces Emilia Portelinha.
Also on the agenda is the recently announced retirement of Fire Chief James Paul, which members of the Board of Fire Commissioners called “unexpected.” The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the assembly room of the John Weichsel Municipal Center, 196 N. Main St.
The Meriden Planning Commission will meet Wednesday in the Engineering Conference Room at City Hall. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
According to a posted agenda, the commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing regarding DFC of Research 1201, LLC’s application for a re-subdivision of 1201 Research Parkway. The commission is scheduled to continue its discussion of 850 S. Main St. LLC’s revised site plan application for 525 Kensington Ave., for the construction of an industrial cannabis growing and processing facility. The revised plans call for one 24,200 square foot building, one 35,200 square foot building along with two accessory structures in the Planned Development District zone.
The Town Council will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Robert F. Parisi Council Chambers at Town Hall, 45 S. Main St. On the consent agenda, they will be accepting funds received from various town organizations, along with approving funds for various town organization. The public is invited to ask questions after the consent agenda has concluded. The Town Council will also receive an update on the new police headquarters from the Police Steering Committee.
The library Board of Directors is scheduled to meet Monday at 6 p.m. at the library, 255 Main St. The agenda includes a drive-up window and local history room as part of the library building project. Also on the agenda is the Barnes Museum Strategic Plan and the 2022-23 budget.
5. Wallingford Board of Education Operations meeting
The Wallingford Board of Educations’ Operations Committee is meeting on Monday at 6 p.m. on Google Meet. The committee will be reviewing financial reports, cafeteria reports and the facilities/maintenance project.
