Those who have suffered from Hurricane Ian are entitled to newly announced tax breaks from the IRS.
“Victims of Hurricane Ian that began September 23 in Florida now have until February 15, 2023, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments, the Internal Revenue Service announced today,” read an announcement by the IRS.
The hurricane continues to cause havoc in Florida and any government help would be welcomed.
The boldly-named American Rescue Plan of 2021 revolutionised child credit payments in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and has led to a drop in child poverty rates in the US.
Previously, there was a flat rate of 2,000 dollars a year until a child’s 17th birthday, but the new system has added a year of eligibility in the and upped the maximum rate for all children.
Now, families can get 3600 dollars for children under the age of six, and 3000 dollars for children aged 6-17. And it’s not too late to apply for the credit.

There’s a plethora of tax deductions and tax credits available for 2022, which could lower your tax bill and leave more money left over for the new year.
Tax credits will save more money over the year dollar-for-dollar compared to tax deductions, as they’re a straight reduction on your tax bill itself.
Child tax credit, meanwhile, means families can receive up to 3,600 dollars for children under six, and 3000 dollars for children aged 6-17, a sizable increase over 2020.
