ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – With warmer spring weather on the way in Michiana, the Humane Society of Elkhart County is encouraging pet owners to consider microchipping their furry friends with a free microchip clinic on Sunday, March 27.
They are giving away 500 microchips to pet owners on a first come first serve basis starting at noon.
Microchips are permanent identification tags that go under the skin. When scanned it can display information like names, phone numbers, and emails.
The free microchip clinic at the Humane Society of Elkhart County is open to Michigan and Indiana residents. All organizers ask, is that your pets are vaccinated, and are either in a kennel, or on a leash.
Janet Graham, the Outreach Manager at the Humane Society Of Elkhart County, said microchips can be crucial in helping lost animals, reunite with their pet owners.
“Animals get lost, people make mistakes, animals get out, and a microchip can help get them home faster,” Graham said.
The clinic starts at noon and will run until 4 p.m. They are also holding a special throughout March where all dogs are 50 percent off.
