Learning Luxembourg’s native tongue abroad might soon become easier as the National Language Center (INL) is developing an online platform accessible anywhere on the globe, education minister Claude Meisch has said.
The INL is soon expected to present the website that will enable “people from all over the world” to learn Luxembourgish “free of charge”, the minister said in answer to a parliamentary question.
However, the reimbursement of learning costs would be reserved exclusively for those who wish to take the Grand Duchy citizenship.
The platform solution should also help manage the INL’s often overcrowded courses. In 2019/2020 academic year, a record 17,000 students enrolled for language courses at the centre, 30% more than in 2015/2016. Luxembourgish is the most sought language at INL, followed by French and English.
