India is likely to host more than 200 meetings of the G20 forum across the country during the Presidency. As per sources, the top G20 Leaders Summit will be held around 9th-10th September next year in the National Capital. It is expected that at least one meeting will be held in every state capital of India as New Delhi plans to use its presidency to enhance the internal capacity in terms of infrastructure. The Modi led BJP government at the Centre also plans to share its success stories on the global stage through the G20 or the Group of Twenty Summit that will be hosted in India a few months before the big 2024 General Elections commence.
Getting the mega opportunity to host the G20 Summit is not just a giant opportunity to boost tourism and bring in numerous investment opportunities for India which is the 5th largest growing economy but it is also a platform for the South Asian Nation to alter the perception that India has not invested sufficiently in global multilateral engagement. The Group of 20 which comprises of 19 nations + the European Union is a solid forum for developed and developing nations to engage and discuss policies for improving economic governance at the global level and India assuming the G20 Presidency is a chance for the nation to put forth the idea of sustainable growth and inclusive development, ideas Modi has been seriously focused on.
There should not be any doubt in anyone’s mind that the G20 presidency will indeed be a watershed moment for New India as it seeks to play a crucial role in addressing pragmatic solutions to the emerging global issues. India could also consider forming new engagement groups that would be focusing on sports, start-ups, indigenous knowledge and heritage and would manifest its tenure to bring new investments to the country as India seeks to emerge as a global superpower. The G20 Indian Presidency would also be one of the biggest milestone moments of India which is the world’s largest democracy. It is widely believed that in the times of multilateralism, India has the moral responsibility to bring complete stability to a deeply divided multipolar world order. Additionally, the G20 must continue to fight the crisis of climate change and send clear signals to decarbonize the economy and India under PM Modi could play a crucial role in this aspects.
