Spider-Punk #4 introduces terrifying new versions of Venom and War Machine into the Marvel Universe.
Spider-Punk #4 comes from writer Cody Ziglar, artist Justin Manson, color artist Jim Charalampidis and letterer VC's Travis Lanham. The issue sees Spider-Punk/Hobie Brown embark on a journey with a team of heroes to take down Norman Osborn. Osborn is presumed dead by the heroes; however, his fanbase is very much alive, given he was formerly the president of the United States, and Spider-Punk wants to infiltrate Osborn's hidden facilities to see what secrets they might hold. Spider-Punk #3 revealed Osborn is still alive in a Venomized form and is working closely with Ta$kma$ter.
Once Spider-Punk, Captain Anarchy/Karl Morningdew, RiotHeart/Riri Williams and Earth-138's Kamala Khan break into one of Osborn's facilities, they're met with an unruly surprise. Along with discovering Osborn is still alive, the team finds Ta$kma$ter and two new variants — Officer Venom and War Sentry, who appears to be a War Machine/Sentry hybrid character. Both War Machine and Sentry have typically been depicted as heroes in the Marvel Universe; however, Sentry also has another villainous entity, the Void, living inside him as a repressed persona capable of causing massive damage.
The heroes and villains quickly engage in battle, which results in Spider-Punk being ruthlessly beaten by Osborn, Ta$kma$ter and Officer Venom. After being knocked unconscious, Spider-Punk awakens to find the team is still alive but is now locked in a prison cell. Riri tells Hobbie her armor is "basically fried," while Captain Anarchy is badly injured. The issue ends with Osborn publicly ordering live executions of Spider-Punk and his crew after labeling them "traitors to the people." The order is made in front of a crowd of Osborn's supporters in front of Washington D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial — which, on Earth-138, is a memorial to Osborn.
Spider-Punk #5 will see Hobie rise to try and defeat Osborn before his entire team is killed. Releasing Sept. 14, the synopsis for the issue reads, "CLASH IN DC! The stage is set, the instruments tuned and everything is ready for the execution…EXECUTION?! Spider-Punk and his band of misfits better survive in time for an encore! ONE. MORE. SONG. ONE! MORE! SONG!"
Spider-Punk #4 features cover art by Takashi Okazaki and Rico Renzi and variant cover art by Taurin Clarke. The issue is on sale now from Marvel.
