Do you know Gionee Mobile? This Chinese brand is quite popular in some regions around the world. It is known for its tough smartphones with big batteries. Today, a mobile phone called Gionee G13 Pro aroused heated discussion among netizens. From its appearance, this smartphone looks like the Apple iPhone 13. However, it is an entry-level smartphone with a 529 yuan ($83) starting price. This smartphone is currently on pre-sale on JD.com and it has a 32GB and 128GB storage version. However, what attracts the most attention is not the resemblance to the iPhone 13. This smartphone has the words “new HMS ecosystem” and “HarmonyOS” on its product details page.
On the details page, Gionee described it this way: “The new HarmonyOS brings a new experience of smart life in all scenarios, the desktop can be freely combined, only combinations (should be ‘free combination’), and personalized words (should be ‘personalized’) customized experience”. You may discover that the product description is quite difficult to read. This is because the Gionee page has a lot of typos that cast mixed feelings on the authenticity of this device.
There are reports that this may just be a sort of propaganda by the manufacturer. However, we can not be so sure that the company can go so low. In addition, some digital bloggers speculate that Gionee G13 Pro may use HMS mobile services. This means it may support Huawei accounts and Huawei’s various software capabilities. However, supporting HarmonyOS in the strict sense is most unlikely. Nevertheless, the product page says it supports this system.
