More vaccinated-friendly destinations are coming to Singapore’s travel list in the coming weeks.
Flag carrier Singapore Airlines and its budget airline Scoot yesterday announced that they will expand their vaccinated travel lanes to dozens of cities, as well as fuel up the frequencies of several flights.
This is in line with the government’s decision to continue reopening borders. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates will welcome travelers from Feb. 25, followed by Israel and the Philippines next month. Vaccinated Thailand travelers soon will also be able to fly into Singapore without quarantine.
In response, SIA added flights to 47 cities such as Hong Kong, Manila, Phuket, Dubai, and Newark, New York, that will begin Feb. 25.
Scoot will also expand to 17 cities including Hong Kong, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Berlin. Flights to destinations such as the Philippines’ Cebu, Clark, and Davao, as well as Thailand’s Chiang Mai, Krabi, and Phuket will start early next month.
More flights will be scheduled for Phuket, Phnom Penh, Bandar Seri Begawan, Colombo, and Male in the Maldives.
Currently, Singapore has extended its vaccinated travel scheme to 24 countries under its vaccinated travel scheme, where the majority of the destinations do not require those vaccinated to quarantine.
Yesterday, the government announced it will relax COVID rules by doing away with safe distancing for those wearing masks, and increasing the number of visitors to five at any time from five per day previously.
The announcement came despite Singapore reporting a one-day high in confirmed infections with 19,420 cases and seven deaths Tuesday, and 16,883 cases with 13 deaths reported yesterday. While the disease is spreading; its impact does not appear severe. More than 1,300 people were reportedly hospitalized as of yesterday, with all state-monitored facilities at 65% occupancy and up as of last week.
