During its P30 series unveiling today, Huawei announced that it has partnered with Korean optical glasses brand Gentle Monster to develop new smart eyewear envisioned to be an alternative to wireless earbuds for taking calls and other hands-free tasks. While it basically works as connected glasses, the smart eyewear is also said to combine fashion and technology.
The device has a compact and minimalist design that ditches buttons and pins, allowing the user to only tap the temple of the glasses to accept a call, for example. It also incorporates dual microphones with beam-forming technology meant to help reduce noise, aided by artificial intelligence that Huawei claims can make your voice clear even in the crowd.
All of the eyewear’s electronic components are packed inside the temple including the two antennas, dual mic, chipset, charging module, speaker, and battery. Its dual semi-open speakers are positioned to minimize sound leak, providing a studio stereo experience, according to Huawei.
The eyewear’s leather case doubles as its charger, which can wirelessly juice up the glasses inside. The smart glasses are also IP67 rated for water and dust resistance. Additionally, the case has a 2,200mAh battery and includes a USB-C port at the bottom.
The Chinese company didn’t say how much the smart glasses will cost. The eyewear is expected to be available by July.
