BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Police Department says they arrested a 22-year-old man on various charges including possession of a machine gun.
Police say they responded to reports of shots being fired near Bookerline Avenue on Tuesday. As they approached the suspected vehicle, the suspect fled.
As the officers chased the suspect, identified as Tavion Hammond, he discarded a firearm out his window that was later recovered.
Eventually Hammond stopped at an apartment complex outside the city and entered an apartment.
Officers made contact with people inside and everyone exited the apartment, including Hammond, who was then arrested.
In addition to possession of a machine gun, Hampton was also charged with illegal use of a weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, three counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, and aggravated flight.
He was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
The Baton Rouge Police Department says it made the arrest with the assistance of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
