HBMK was also the star of the night as its managed properties took home two of the three Editor’s Choice Awards, with the Sime Darby Motors City under the Malaysia’s Outstanding Specialised Development category and the 3 Kia Peng Apartments under the Malaysia’s Outstanding Sustainable Residential Strata Development category.
BMSPA, which was started by EdgeProp Malaysia in 2017, has reached new heights with The Edge Malaysia as its host this year in an effort to promote the awards and the competition’s objectives. The awards, which aim to recognise real estate that is sustainable and managed with excellence, was held on Monday (Aug 15) evening at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
This year’s sponsors were Nippon Paint Malaysia, the main partner, and Panasonic Malaysia, the supporting partner. Nippon Paint has been a sponsor since 2017 while this is Panasonic’s fourth year.
The awards were also endorsed by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, EdgeProp Malaysia, Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia, Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM), Malaysian Institute of Property and Facility Managers, Malaysian REIT Managers Association, Building Management Association of Malaysia, Architect Centre Sdn Bhd and Association of Property and Facility Managers.
In his welcome speech, The Edge Media Group publisher and chief executive officer Datuk Ho Kay Tat said, “We have gathered to celebrate Malaysia’s finest in real estate. What we seek to do with this award is to benchmark Malaysia’s gold standard of property management practices and sustainability and recognise developments that are built and managed with excellence and sustainability.”
The BMSPA 2022 presented awards under eight main categories this year, covering residential, office, mixed development, retail and specialised category. The categories were subdivided into two segments to reflect the age of the property — below 10 years or above 10 years.
In addition to the anchor awards, BMSPA 2022 also presented The Edge-ILAM Malaysia’s Sustainable Landscape Awards and the Editor’s Choice Awards.
“Our judges, who represent key stakeholders in the real estate industry in Malaysia and Singapore, shortlisted 42 developments. They visited each of the 42 developments, going as far as Penang and Johor Bahru. For all intents and purposes, the detailed site inspections are nothing short of ‘free audits’,” Ho said.
Also taking home the Editor’s Choice Awards was the Desa ParkCity development by ParkCity Group under Malaysia’s Exemplary Sustainable Township category. The 473-acre township was also awarded Gold under The Edge-ILAM Malaysia’s Sustainable Landscape Awards in the Landscape Planning category.
