President Phuc hosted a reception on November 3 in Hanoi for Ambassador Al Dhaheri who came to bid farewell before ending his working term in Vietnam.
The Vietnamese President used the event as an opportunity to congratulate the Ambassador on successfully completing his term of office, adding that the country appreciates the importance of the UAE in both region and at multilateral forums.
In response, Ambassador Al Dhaheri thanked leaders of Vietnamese ministries and agencies for supporting him throughout his tenure.
The Ambassador said that in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the relationship between the two countries has recorded many positive changes, especially in terms of investment and trade co-operation. He went on to affirm that upon his return home, regardless of his position, he will always try his best to act as a bridge promoting bilateral relations.
The Vietnamese State leader expressed his satisfaction at the positive developments made in the two countries’ relations across a multitude of fields. Indeed, the UAE is one of the country’s leading economic, trade, and investment partners in the Middle East, with last year’s trade turnover reaching US$5.3 billion, up 21% on-year.
As a means of ramping up co-operation between the two countries, the President suggested that the two sides carry out a score measures, such as increasing the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, boosting closer co-ordination in organising political, economic, and cultural activities ahead of the 30th anniversary of both nations’ diplomatic relations in 2023, as well as offering mutual support at international and regional forums and organisations.
The President also requested that the UAE support Vietnam to swiftly complete procedures to become a dialogue partner of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), intensify the exchange of business delegations, and encourage activities such as fairs, exhibitions, and business forums.
This should be done alongside accelerating the establishment of the Vietnam – UAE Business Council, along with studying the possibility of starting bilateral FTA negotiations in the future.
As part of this occasion, President Phuc cordially invited the President of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to visit Vietnam soon.
