NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Prince Harry’s highly anticipated memoir could be delayed until next year amid concern over which ‘truth bombs’ to include, it has been reported.
The Duke of Sussex’s tell-all book had been due for release in time for Christmas this year, but a source now claims ‘things are up in the air’ in relation to its release.
Another publishing source is quoted as telling US celebrity gossip website Page Six that November had been pencilled in as a potential date.
They added: ‘I have heard that Harry has some truth bombs in his book that he is debating on whether to include or not. So, this [delay] is no surprise if he needs more time to work on the book.’
Harry announced the publishing deal last summer, promising the book would be an ‘accurate and wholly truthful’ account of his life.
Penguin Random House said at the time it was expected to be released in late 2022.
The duke, who also pledged to donate the proceeds to charity, said the memoir will be written ‘not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become’.
There will be concern in royal quarters that the duke will delve into his rift with his brother, the Duke of Cambridge, his troubled relationship with his father, the Prince of Wales, his view of stepmother the Duchess of Cornwall and the turbulent fallout of Megxit.
The Sussexes accused the royal family of racism in their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview last year, saying an unnamed royal made a racist remark about their son Archie before he was born, and that the institution failed to help a suicidal Meghan.
Last month, The Sun reported that the manuscript ‘has been finished and gone through all of the legal processes’, with a source saying: ‘It’s done and out of Harry’s hands.’
But there has been no official word since the initial announcement, leading to speculation within the industry.
The memoir is still not available for pre-sale on Amazon or other sites, which are an important indicator of a book’s future success and can help fuel additional orders from sellers.
The delay rumours come after Meghan launched her long-awaited Archetypes podcast on Tuesday.
Speaking with her friend, tennis great Serena Williams, the Duchess of Sussex shared the trauma of how son Archie narrowly escaped a fire in his bedroom on the Sussexes’ royal tour to South Africa.
She spoke of her distress after learning of the near-miss soon after delivering an empowering speech to girls in the Nyanga township in Cape Town, before rushing back to see Archie and then having to leave him to carry out another official engagement.
In a promotional video released on Twitter, Meghan vowed to be ‘unfiltered’ in her series, saying ‘people should expect the real me in this’ rather than what they see through the lens of the media.
She added: ‘I’m just excited to be myself and talk and be unfiltered.’
The next Archetypes podcast – part of the Sussexes’ multi-million-pound deal with Spotify – will feature Meghan in conversation with singer Mariah Carey.
