The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Californian neighbours are “beginning to question” the reasons behind the pair’s media offensive, it has been claimed. While Prince Harry and Meghan are hoping to tell their side of the story and set the record straight through their interviews, Netflix programme and memoir, Montecito residents appear to be interested in the “soap opera” side of the royal row.
One resident in the neighbourhood where Prince Harry and Meghan decided to relocate in the summer of 2020 described the ever “evolving” drama surrounding the fifth-in-line to the throne and his relatives as “interesting”.
Others, however, are said to be wondering why Meghan and Harry have embarked on a very public showdown with the Royal Family.
Sky News reporter Martha Kelner, who spoke to locals from the US, told the camera: “As the TV and book deals mount up, neighbours are beginning to question the motives behind their media offensive.”
One of the residents she interviewed told Ms Kelner: “The story is interesting because it keeps evolving. It’s he said, she said. It makes great television.”Another, asked whether people in the States sided with Harry and Meghan rather than the British-based royals, responded: “My observation is that most women are on Meghan’s side. Most men are just wondering why are they doing this?”
The reporter also visited a local book shop, where co-owner Mary Sheldon expected Montecito residents to be interested in reading Prince Harry‘s first account about his life in his memoir titled Spare – which was released worldwide on January 10.
She said: “I was excited when I found out it was coming.
“I called my publisher and told him to put in an order, it’s one of the books we order by the carton, people are definitely excited about reading it here.”
