Warzone 2’s release date is sooner than we thought.
Warzone, the free-to-play Call Of Duty battle royale game, will be old news in just a few months. The game’s sequel is slated to release before the Christmas break, at least according to a new leak.
An internal Activision document that has been leaked online pins the Warzone 2 release date to November 16th, less than a month after the October 28th release of Modern Warfare 2.
Both games will get a major gameplay reveal in September during the Call Of Duty Next live-event which kicks off the upcoming Modern Warfare II beta.
You can see the start and end-times for the beta on PC, Xbox and PlayStation right here. Learn how to get access to the Modern Warfare II campaign a week early here.
As you can see in the tweet below, Warzone 2 is set to launch globally at 10am PT on November 16th.
The leak also reveals that Diablo IV’s pre-ordering will go live on December 8th with an announcement (and likely new trailer) at The Game Awards.
November 16th is certainly sooner than I expected for Warzone 2, which I thought would release in the first quarter of 2023, much like the original Warzone launched in March of 2020—just when schools and businesses began to shut down for the pandemic.
A pre-Christmas launch makes sense, however, and gives the various teams at Infinity Ward, Raven Software and Activision time to hammer out some bugs before the holiday break. It should also drive Modern Warfare II hype and sales, especially if its launch coincides with Season 1 of that game.
Obviously, this is a leak and not an official announcement so take it with a grain of salt, but the timeline certainly makes sense. We should know more soon enough as all this and more will be revealed during the big September event.
