A quarter of Americans say Prince Harry is their favourite member of the Royal Family, according to a new poll.
Asked to select the three members of the family they like the most, it was the Duke of Sussex who topped the list, with 25 per cent of Americans choosing Harry, closely followed by Kate Middleton with 22 per cent, and Prince William with 17 per cent.
The poll, ran by Ipsos, shows 12 per cent of Americans view Meghan Markle as their favourite, with King Charles III only scoring 8 per cent.
The results also show that 21 per cent of Americans don’t have a favourite royal – a higher score than the Prince of Wales.
Harry’s popularity comes off the back of having the fastest-selling non-fiction book in the UK since records began in 1998, with his memoir Spare selling more than 465,000 copies in its first week. The Duke of Sussex also promoted the book heavily in the US, appearing on a number of television shows to discuss the tell all memoir.
Meanwhile, one fifth of Americans think abolishing the monarchy would be good for Britain – with just one tenth thinking it would make things worse.
In a US broadcast promoting the work, Harry branded the Duchess of Cornwall the “villain” and “dangerous”, accusing her of rehabilitating her image at the expense of his.
As the duke continued a run of high-profile promotional interviews, he said he “would like nothing more” than for his children to have relationships with the royal family.
His remarks about his son and daughter came despite the criticism he has levelled at his brother William, father Charles and stepmother Camilla.
He also described his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, as his “guardian angel” and said she is with him “all the time”.
Harry’s success has also been seen on screen, after Netflix has announced the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s explosive recent series is its second-highest ranked documentary ever.
Harry & Meghan began its release on December 8, and saw damaging claims levelled at the royal family throughout six episodes.
One royal event certain to peak the interest of the United States will be King Charles’ coronation.
A balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace, a concert featuring global stars and a day of volunteering will all form part of the celebrations, which will take place over the coronation weekend from Saturday May 6 to Monday May 8.
The coronation of the King and Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on the Saturday morning, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
According to the palace it will be “a solemn religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry”.
The service will “reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry”.
