NIT Silchar alumni, Karimganj resident Krishanu Dey has won the 2022 IET Hudswell International Research Scholarship. A PhD student at Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, Krishanu’s achievement has made the whole state proud. Formerly, he has been a student at the National University of Singapore where he researched for a master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Chief Minister of Assam has also joined among the many to congratulate this young researcher.
Krishanu Dey is a resident of Karimganj who moved to Cambridge in Cambridgeshire, Europe after completing his masters from the National University of Singapore in 2018. Before that, he completed his B. Tech from the National Institute of Technology, Silchar in 2016.
Sharing this international research award on LinkedIn, Krishanu wrote, “Humbled to receive the Hudswell International Research Award from Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for the year 2022. This is one of the 6 awards meant for postgraduate students across the world who are carrying out leading research at world’s most recognized universities and thereby advancing knowledge throughout the global engineering and technology community. The Award Ceremony was held on 20th October, 2022 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London. It was a wonderful event full of high achievers and what better than receiving the award while my partner and my close friends cheered me on.”
According to the blog published by the University of Cambridge the Physics scholar, Krishanu was always fascinated by light-electricity or photon-electron interactions that have revolutionised many modern-day electronic inventions. In particular, solar photovoltaic research really appealed to him and accordingly, he pursued research on solar-driven water splitting and a variety of photovoltaic material technologies even before starting his PhD.
The Chief Minister of Assam’s official Twitter wrote “Assam’s Krishanu Dey, a PhD student at @Cambridge_Uni is the winner of 2022 IET Hudswell International Research Scholarship. Hon CM Dr @himantabiswa extended his good wishes to Dey, who he says, can serve as a role model for many youngsters.” today morning.
Again sharing his gratitude, Krishanu Dey wrote, “It is an absolute honor for me to receive such encouragement from our respected Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Sir today, which is further amplified by Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar ji. I will continue striving to make my small town of Karimganj and my lovely state of Assam proud in future too. I also very much look forward to contributing to the upliftment of higher education scenario (especially in Natural Sciences) in Assam and beyond, in whichever capacity possible.” on LinkedIn today.
