There are just four weeks left to book your place on the popular Bridge the Gap charity walk in Cambridge.
The family-friendly event, supported by the Cambridge Independent, will offer participants the chance to enjoy the beautiful and historic grounds of University of Cambridge colleges, while raising money for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill.
More than 470 people have already signed up to take part in the walk on the morning of Sunday, September 11.
Book by midday on Wednesday, September 7 and you can join in at the discounted rate of £18 per adult. Those who have not pre-booked a place can sign up on the day for £20 per adult.
Up to two under-16s can enjoy the walk for free with each registered paying adult.
All the proceeds, and any sponsorship raised by those taking part, is evenly split between the two charities.
Sharon Allen, chief executive of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, which provides its services free of charge to patients and their families, said: “We have had such fun planning this year’s Bridge the Gap walk, and we are delighted that so many people have already registered to take part.
“It will be a special day, and I would encourage anyone who is thinking about taking part to book and confirm their place before September 7, to take advantage of the discounted rate. People will still be able to pay on the day, but you won’t want to miss this special return to the traditional Bridge the Gap event.”
The route, which is wheelchair and pushchair-friendly, will be revealed soon. It promises to include some much-loved parts of the city, as well as some of its hidden secrets – and walkers will get close-up views of six colleges and their stunning gardens.
Up to 2,000 walkers have historically taken part in the event, which begins and ends on Parker’s Piece, where everyone can enjoy a visit to the Time for Tea tent for refreshments and enjoy live acoustic music.
Neil Perry, chief executive at Romsey Mill, which helps 2,000 local young people, children and families each year, said: “Bridge the Gap is a special event for those who take part and all those involved in planning the walk.
“The money that is raised is vital in helping fund care and support for local people that the two charities are with. The route that we have planned for this year will delight everyone who takes part. We don’t want anyone to miss out.”
Since it launched in 2001, more than 40,000 people have taken part and more than £630,000 has been raised for charity.
The Cambridge Building Society continues as headline sponsor, as it has been for 13 years. Other sponsors include TTP Group, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, and Cambridge City Rotary Club, while the Cambridge Independent, Cambridge 105 Radio and the Co-op are event partners.
Peter Burrows, CEO at The Cambridge Building Society, added: “We love sponsoring Bridge the Gap and being active partners in planning the event. We have been encouraging our customers, team members and the public to sign up and take part, and we are delighted with the response to date.
“Our stores have special video displays with links to the Bridge the Gap booking page, to make it easier for people to sign up and join us on Sunday, September 11.”
