The deadline to apply for the next Civil Service exam to become a Cambridge Police Officer has been announced. The deadline to apply for the exam is January 17, 2023. Late applications, which would result in an additional $50 fee, will be accepted until January 31, 2023. The written examination is scheduled to take place between March 18, 2023 – April 1, 2023. All interested Cambridge residents are encouraged to apply by visiting www.cambridgepolice.org/joinCPD.
In advance of the application deadline, the Cambridge Police will host a series of recruiting information sessions. The first information session will be held in-person for all interested applicants on Tuesday, December 13 at 6 p.m. at the Cambridge Police Department, which is located at 125 6th Street in Cambridge. During this session, residents can get more information on the application, hiring and selection process, learn about key timelines, and meet with several officers to ask questions and learn more about policing in Cambridge. Register for the December 13th session.
Additional virtual information sessions will be offered in January 2023, including a session co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement (MAWLE). Dates will be announced soon.
“Since I became City Manager in August, I have had the opportunity to spend quality time with a number of people within the Cambridge Police Department,” said City Manager Yi-An Huang. “I am continually impressed by the dedication and expertise of our police officers and professional staff. Whether they are patrolling or conducting outreach in our squares, investigating complicated crimes, or supporting survivors, CPD employees truly demonstrate a deep commitment to not just enforcing our laws, but working toward enhancing the overall health and wellness of our community. They represent a version of policing that agencies around the country aspire to replicate. If you want to make a genuine difference in the community and have an interest in public service, I strongly encourage you to apply for the police exam today.”
“If you want to serve a larger purpose, effect real change, make a highly competitive salary, and have an opportunity to receive lifelong benefits, then we encourage all residents to strongly consider applying for a job with the Cambridge Police Department,” said Police Commissioner Christine Elow. “Our most recent class included a number of officers who wanted more from their careers. Some left desk jobs. Others were 10-15 years into another career. This job can be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. Whether you are looking to start a career or change your career path, we encourage Cambridge residents to highly consider attending our upcoming information session and applying for the exam today.”
A dedicated website that contains important dates, FAQs, a breakdown of the examination and selection processes, information on benefits and incentives, videos, training insights and more is available at www.cambridgepolice.org/joinCPD.
Residents should contact CPD’s Office of Planning Budget and Personnel at Personnel@CambridgePolice.Org with any questions or if they are looking for further information.
