Scotland Logs More Million-Pound Home Sales Than Ever
Last year was a record breaker for Scotland’s high-end real estate market, which logged 504 transactions on homes valued at £1 million (US$1.21 million) or more, according to estate agency Rettie & Co. The firm said that the seven-figure market in the country has grown by 80% in the last two years, driven up by home price inflation. Such properties are “spreading more widely from the previous core areas of Edinburgh and Glasgow with St. Andrews and East Lothian showing strong gains as they remain very desirable places to live with a limited number of prime houses coming to market,” said Rettie & Co managing director Simon Rettie. Toronto Bungalow Sells for Nearly C$1 Million Over Its Asking Price
The slowdown in housing demand is hitting greater Toronto pretty unevenly. Just take this sale in the leafy, upmarket neighborhood Lawrence Park. The modest, nearly 70-year-old bungalow sold for C$3.2 million (US$2.4 million)—nearly C$1 million more than its asking price. The property attracted offers from 16 buyers, who were drawn to its larger-than-typical size for the neighborhood and its relative affordability compared to neighboring homes that have sold for as much as C$14 million. Los Angeles Home Seen in 1995 Action Flick ‘Heat’ Listed for $1.59 Million
A Mid-Century Modern home on a Los Angeles hillside has just come on the market for $1.59 million. Known as the Stilt House, it appeared in the 1995 action film “Heat,” directed by Michael Mann and starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Built in 1962, the unique home is mostly supported by a sinewy system of stilts and juts over a hillside. The property “stands alone on the top of City Terrace in one of the most storied neighborhoods in Los Angeles, Boyle Heights,” said agent Joshua F. Smith, who is listing the property with Sally Forster Jones, both of Compass. Realtor.com
