Dear Tiatira Com,
Travel may be the world’s greatest teacher. It asks us to rethink what we think we know and see it from a new perspective. And if that is so — and as a longtime traveler, I know that it is — the Arctic is the top of its class when it comes to new realizations.
You can’t be on an Arctic cruise for long before the experience begins to put black-and-white thinking on trial. This is not the great frozen north; it is lands of many cultures and people, of extraordinary wildlife and amazing (and sturdy!) plant life that rearranges the orderly system we’ve created in our minds and shows us something entirely new.
The good news: It educates us and helps us become better citizens of the world. The better news: Travel with open eyes and open hearts, and every place can be that teacher.
Stay curious.
Warmest Regards, |

SEEING ANOTHER SIDE OF THE ARCTIC |
|
You won’t see the equivalent of the Taj Mahal or the Roman Colosseum or China’s Great Wall in the Arctic. Instead of buildings that testify to architectural greatness, you’ll find wildlife that spins your head around. So it is with the polar bear, one of the largest apex predators in the world. The big surprise for us about polar bears? You’ll also find great tenderness among this species, a sense of playfulness that defies our expectations. Watch this beautiful video by two of Silversea’s expedition members. We dare you to come away unmoved.
