Home Prices in Some of New Zealand’s Priciest Suburbs Have Plummeted
The market downturn in New Zealand has torpedoed home prices in the country’s most high-end suburbs, according to CoreLogic. Areas including Saint Marys Bay, Westmere and Orakei in Auckland, and Seatoun and Karaka Bays in Wellington, have seen their median values drop by NZ$300,000 (US$186,934) or more over the last year. “Houses in those suburbs are generally more expensive to start with, so the percentage fall is always going to translate into a bigger drop in dollar value,” said Kelvin Davidson, chief property economist at CoreLogic NZ. Charities to Get Payday From Sydney Home Sale
Two Australian charities are set to benefit from the A$2.2 million (US$1.46 million) sale of a house in the Sydney suburb of Ryde, after the late owner requested the vast majority of the proceeds be donated. Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and the Royal Flying Doctor Service will be the beneficiaries of Saturday’s auction, in which the home sold for A$630,000 over reserve. “Bidding was ferocious and went up quite quickly,” selling agent Michael Dowling said. “The first comment from the buyers was, ‘We feel like we paid a bit too much, but we’re happy it’s going to a good cause.’” realestate.com.au
