New Zealand Home Sales Fell to the Lowest Level in Nearly 40 Years in February
New Zealand registered 60,589 house sales in the 12 months through February, the lowest annual tally since October 1983, according to the latest data from CoreLogic New Zealand. Sales in February alone were also the lowest since 1981. With rising interest rates and pileup of inventory, buyers were not rushing into purchases. “This is a recipe for low levels of sales,” said Kelvin Davidson, chief property economist at Corelogic New Zealand. Well-Heeled Middle Easterners Are Eyeing New York Properties
More and more buyers from the Arabian Peninsula are interested in luxury New York properties, brokers said. A rising U.S. dollar has actually energized the market, as high-net-worth individuals consider dollar assets as a safe haven, said Georgina Atkinson, head of Knight Frank’s U.S. residential developments in Dubai. “They are after trophy assets predominantly in the prime segment of the market and typically valued above $5 million,” Ms. Atkinson said.
