TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta’s acting governor Heru Budi Hartono has given the capital’s residents an option to work from home if the city has the potential to flood during heavy rains. He asked government officials to immediately inform residents if the weather conditions worsened.
“Provide [residents] with information about which areas are prone to traffic jams, so that traffic users can choose which routes to take, or even opt to work from home,” he said at Monas, Central Jakarta, Monday, October 24, during the morning assembly for handling traffic jams in Jakarta.
He reminded the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Transportation Service, and the Metro Police Traffic Directorate to inform which locations are prone to inundation and congestion earlier.
Heru hopes that the ranks of the Jakarta Provincial Government and related Metro Jaya Police departments will work together to overcome congestion in the capital.
The acting governor also promised to make routine field visits to check the completeness of infrastructure for dealing with the rainy season and prevent flooding.
