WASHINGTON (AP) — Not even the annual White House Easter Egg Roll is safe from presidential politics.
President Joe Biden, the host of Monday’s festivities on the South Lawn, said he plans to participate in “at least three or four more Easter egg rolls, maybe five.”

A French prosecutor says investigators are treating the deaths of at least six people who were killed when a building collapsed in the city of Marseille as a possible “involuntary homicide” case. Prosecutor Dominique Laurens said Tuesday that an investigation was opened on that basis after the first body was found in the building, which collapsed in an explosion on Sunday. Four of the six victims have been formally identified, Laurens said: a 74-year-old couple and two women, ages 88 and 65, who were neighbors. Rescuers continuing searching Tuesday for two people who remained unaccounted for. Laurents says investigators are working on the hypothesis that a gas explosion caused the building’s collapse.
It’s that time of year again, right? Crush the Nets in five starting this weekend, then get a lethal dose of the Celtics. I mean, tell me why I should believe in this Sixers team.

The dream of a 30-30 or 40-40 season for Oneil Cruz isn’t likely to become reality, unless he rejoins the Pirates later this season and goes on some sort of Mario Lemieux-level tear.
The current COVID-19 situation in the U.S. is both good and bad. The good news is that COVID-19 deaths are at the lowest levels of the three-year pandemic. Given current trends, projections indicate roughly 100,000 COVID-19 deaths for 2023 — less than half of any of the three previous years.
Dribbling wizard Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and scoring wonder Victor Osimhen have been garnering most of the headlines for Napoli this season. But 5-foot-7 midfielder Stanislav Lobotka has been the motor that makes Napoli tick with his exceptional passing skills and field vision. So what has changed for a player who struggled for playing time under previous Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso? The arrival of coach Luciano Spalletti and improved fitness after two surgeries for tonsillitis. Lobotka says in an Associated Press interview that “the most important (thing) is the confidence that you feel the coach trusts you.” He adds that “when I feel these feelings I can show my quality.”
OUTSIDE BAKHMUT, Ukraine — There had been a time when Oleg was excited to get behind the wheel of the tank. A sardonic 25-year-old, he’s been serving as a driver around the front lines of the war in eastern Ukraine since almost the beginning of Russia’s invasion last year.

The latest encounter between Real Madrid and Chelsea in the Champions League will put a spotlight on their coaches. Chelsea will travel for Wednesday’s first leg in Madrid with Frank Lampard trying to win for the first time since being named interim coach. Madrid will play still surrounded by doubts about Carlo Ancelotti’s future amid rumors of him taking over Brazil’s national team. The outcome could potentially help Lampard reclaim the permanent job with the English club. It could also influence Ancelotti’s decision on whether to accept the Brazil job. Lampard says “we have an opportunity against a fantastic team.”
For my money, the three most-interesting segments of every men’s college basketball season are 1.) Selection Sunday; 2.) The NCAA Tournament; 3.) The coaching carousel.

South Korea plans to conduct its first launch of a commercial-grade satellite aboard a domestically built rocket next month as part of its space development program. The Science Ministry said Tuesday that the launch of its homegrown Nuri rocket is set to take place from a southern on May 24. Last year, South Korea launched its first satellite using the Nuri rocket. But that involved a “performance verification” satellite mainly designed to examine the capacity of the rocke while next month’s launch is meant to put a commercial-grade satellite into orbit for the first time. Some experts say the development of such rockets would eventually help South Korea acquire technologies for bigger missiles and reconnaissance satellites amid animosities with rival North Korea.

Human rights groups and opposition politicians in Thailand are criticizing the government for forcibly repatriating three men who were reportedly members of an anti-government resistance movement in military-ruled Myanmar. The Bangkok-based People’s Empowerment Foundation says the action violated universal human rights principles and Thailand’s own policy because the men were likely to be in danger as a result of their activities fighting against Myanmar’s military government. Myanmar’s independent media, which operate underground and in exile, reported that the three men were members of a resistance group and crossed into Thailand to have at least one of them treated for injuries. A leaked Thai government document saya the men had not identified themselves as combatants.

The deal to rescue long-troubled Credit Suisse marks a thunderclap for a country that prides itself on its finesse and acumen in finance. Lawmakers are expected to raise concerns about thousands of expected job cuts and discuss accountability for long-troubled Credit Suisse’s collapse.

Tens of thousands of doctors have walked off the job across England in a four-day strike billed as the most disruptive in the history of the U.K.’s public health service. The walkout by junior doctors is due to last until 7 a.m. on Saturday. Junior doctors make up almost half of all doctors in Britain’s state-funded National Health Service. NHS bosses say thas many as 350,000 scheduled operations and appointments will be canceled during the walkout. The British Medical Association, the doctors’ trade union, is seeking a 35% pay raise to make up for years of below-inflation increases. The government says that is unaffordable.

French President Emmanuel Macron is set to begin a two-day state visit to the Netherlands and is outlining his vision for the future of Europe at a speech in The Hague, after making waves with comments about the continent’s relationship with Taiwan. Macron’s trip to Amsterdam and The Hague starting Tuesday is the first state visit by a French leader since Jacques Chirac 23 years ago and underscores the close links between the Netherlands and France and the two leaders. The speech in The Hague comes after Macron raised eyebrows with comments on Taiwan after his recent visit to China. In an interview published Sunday, he asks: as Europeans, “is it in our interest to accelerate (a crisis) on Taiwan? No.”
