As part of their Electrification project, Caltrain is installing ground wiring near the signal arms and attaching it to the poles for the signaling system at all four corners of the rail crossings at Churchill, Alma, E. Meadow, and Charleston. Beginning November 14 through November 30, temporary pedestrian closures to one side of the following crossings will occur Monday through Friday. Illuminated and directional signs at the crossings will direct pedestrians to the opposite side of the street for crossing.
Please drive safely and watch for pedestrians and cyclists as routes will be changing during these construction times. Find more information about Caltrain Electrification including alternate pedestrian routes here.
Caltrain will be doing nightly repairs on the Oregon Expressway Caltrain Railroad Bridge at Alma Street and Oregon Expressway.
Please avoid this area and take alternate routes if traveling along Oregon Expressway during these times.
Find the work plan and alternate routes here(PDF, 5MB).
Caltrain will be running a series of nighttime weekend shutdowns to test the train signal system at Palo Alto Ave (Alma Street) on the weekend of December 10 – 11 and December 17 – 18. There will be flaggers present at all Palo Alto crossings, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be stopped during train testing. Crossings will be open when there is no test train approaching. More details to come.
El Camino Real (State Highway 82), which is maintained by Caltrans, is undergoing significant improvements because the Pavement Condition Index scores are much lower than the average for Palo Alto streets. Staff has been communicating with Caltrans about the upcoming plans to repave El Camino Real from the Mountain View to Menlo Park borders, with work currently planned for 2023. We are aware of challenging road conditions on parts of El Camino Real and when a community member shares concerns with us, we send those directly to Caltrans staff.
The community can also submit a request directly to Caltrans here.
