Flying from Gatwick and need somewhere to stay? These Gatwick Airport hotels have got you covered.
Words by John Rogers
We love to travel, but one of the less appealing aspects is staying in a hotel near the airport before an early flight. Luckily, Gatwick Airport is superbly catered for, with hotels on-site and within easy reach.
Here are the best of them.

Bloc Hotel is located within the South Terminal at Gatwick, overlooking some terminal gates, making it an aircraft spotter’s dream.
You can check your bags with your airline the night before you fly into this modern, attractive hotel to kick back, relax and get rested before heading away the following morning. With mood lighting, rainfall showers and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout, this is a great place for solo travellers, couples on a romantic break, families and workers to chill before their early morning wake-up.
The airport terminal’s shops and restaurants are right on the hotel’s doorsteps, with departure gates literally within a stone’s throw.

Sofitel is a luxury four-star hotel located within the North Terminal of Gatwick airport, making it a convenient stopover for anyone departing early the following day.
The hotel includes two bars, meeting rooms, a superb selection of three restaurants and a fully equipped modern gym. All rooms come with private bathrooms, free Wi-Fi as standard, and soundproof en suite rooms complete with satellite television and access to streaming services like Netflix.
Should you need a wake-up call in the early hours, Sofitel’s friendly staff are available around the clock to give you a call and ensure you don’t miss your flight.

Connected to the South Terminal by a covered walkway, Hilton Gatwick is a convenient, easily accessible and extremely comfortable place to stay overnight before you head off to warmer, sunnier or even cooler climes.
With all the luxurious quality you’d expect from a Hilton, the hotel has an on-site fitness suite, a selection of restaurants and bars, a coffee shop, and a casual sports bar.
Once in your room, you can enjoy a modern and stylish room with an en-suite, a work desk and high-speed Wi-Fi. Rooms also offer access to on-demand movies to help you relax before jetting off.

The Courtyard by Marriott is a short walk from the South Terminal, with the North Terminal accessible via the free-to-use monorail service.
With sustainability a particular watchword at this highly comfortable and beautifully equipped hotel, The Courtyard offers free Wi-Fi, a restaurant and convenience shop, a laundry and fitness centre, and access to a dry cleaning service to help you de-wrinkle suits and elegant dresses.
If you need to turn in early, there is full room service and wake-up calls from their helpful staff, available 24/7 to ensure you’re at your departure gate in good time for your flight.

Just a five-minute walk to the North Terminal, and with a free shuttle service to the South Terminal, the Premier Inn North Terminal is the best option for anyone needing to stay on-site, but while allowing for a tight budget.
Rooms come with all the comforts you’d expect from Premier Inn – we love their mattresses – blackout blinds, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, en-suite shower and bathrooms, and an on-site restaurant/bar area.
Their “Build-your-own” breakfast is available for an additional fee, which, if you want to watch the pennies before you arrive abroad, is well worth taking up.

If you’d like the quality associated with the Hilton name but at a slightly more accessible price, Hampton by Hilton will not see you go short.
Linked to the North Terminal directly by a covered walkway, Hampton by Hilton has a gym, restaurant, bar, and high-quality accommodation. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, alarm clock, laptop safe, and excellently appointed en-suite shower rooms as a minimum.
The hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast for early risers from 4 am, with the cooked goods hitting the buffet a couple of hours later.

Yotel Air in Gatwick’s South Terminal is a unique hotel experience we adore. Coming with three styles of cabin, designed with the help of BA’s luxury cabin designers, guests can hunker down in a Standard, Premium Queen or Premium Twin cabin.
You can book by the hour (minimum 4 hours), or for a night, with cabin workstations and monsoon showers as standard. Small but with everything you might need for a refreshing night’s sleep before an early start, guests can also take advantage of a jukebox-style music system and some of the most relaxed mood lighting around.
If you’re hungry, take advantage of the hotel’s 24-hour cabin service menu, which includes light bites, snacks and an excellent range of drinks.

Heading a touch further afield, set in the stunning rustic countryside with gorgeous views of the Surrey Hills, Stanhill Court Hotel is just 10 minutes from Gatwick Airport. It’s also a world away from London’s second busiest transportation hub.
The manor house dates back to 1881 and has a range of rooms for solo travellers, couples and families. If you’re on a romantic break, we urge you to try out the stunning Autograph room with a countryside view, bathrobes, and, excitingly, a super king-size four-poster bed!
Better yet, Stanhill Court has an arrangement with local private taxi firms for airport transfers for a fixed fare of £12.50.

A touch further afield from Gatwick Airport, the Curious Pig in the Parlour is a boutique pub/guest house in the village of Copthorne, about 7 miles from the airport terminals.
The rooms are excellently priced and have more than enough character to set them apart from the sometimes blandness of a chain hotel room. We love their Deluxe King rooms because of the extra space under the covers. But all their rooms, regardless of bed size, are very well appointed with en-suite, smart TVs, and en-suite as standard.
If you’re hungry, the pub does incredible stone-baked pizzas and chargrill oven-cooked steaks, which are terrifically mouth-watering.

If the 19th Century is too modern for your tastes, then Langshott Manor in Horley is a stunning 16th Century country house that offers guests a range of luxury and opulent rooms to choose from.
From their cosy beamed double room with a splendid period fireplace to a four-poster bed and private balcony overlooking the house’s medieval moat. Some suites come with private gardens that nod to the manor’s Tudor origins.
Afternoon tea and excellent dining mean that you may decide you don’t want to leave in the morning and choose to have a staycation instead – we wouldn’t blame you!

The Maple Manor Hotel is just five minutes from Gatwick by car or taxi. A charming manor house provides runway views of planes coming and going alongside a long, well-trodden aviation-club history.
We love their Oak Suites, which have separate twin rooms and space for a cot bed, ideal for young families, while all of their rooms come with a relaxing neutral decor and bathroom toiletries courtesy of White Company.
If you drive, the hotel offers secure airport parking and quick, convenient options for transfer by taxi in the morning to save you the headache of paying a fortune for a space no closer to the terminals than this stunning hotel.
The best and most convenient area to stay in Gatwick is within the airport complex itself. Several excellent and convenient options exist for overnight stays in the North and South terminals.
Gatwick Airport is just off Junction 9 of the M23 and is served by regular train services from London Victoria in the centre of London.
All hotels within Gatwick Airport are within easy walking distance of the terminal buildings for visitors staying overnight. A fast and reliable free monorail service connects the terminals.
Anyone in one of the surrounding villages, such as Horley or Charlwood, can get a taxi or Uber to the airport from their hotel. Some hotels, such as Stanhill Court, have agreements with local taxi firms for a fixed transfer fare to either terminal.
