A 55-year-old man has been charged with murder after stabbing a woman and injuring a bystander who came to help her in Northampton. Both were taken to hospital with injuries following the incident in August.
The incident happened in Cyril Street, near Northampton General Hospital, just before 2pm on August 13. Northamptonshire Police officers received reports that a woman had been stabbed and a member of the public who had intervened had also received injuries.
Ioan Budea, of Delapre Street, Northampton, has since been charged with the attack. He appeared before Northampton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 6.

Following the incident, the woman was taken straight to hospital with serious injuries. A Northants Police spokesperson said she is now making a good recovery.
The member of the public who intervened in the attack suffered knife wound injuries and was taken to hospital with minor injuries. They were later discharged and are now fully recovered, according to Northants Police.

Budea was charged with attempted murder and Section 18 Gross Bodily Harm – wounding, in connection with the incident. If convicted of both, the 55-year-old could get up to 42 years in prison.
Budea will appear at Northampton Magistrates’ Court again on October 21, 2022.
