Saturday’s 6th Round ties saw 5 teams earn their place in the Quarter-Finals of this year’s Only Sport Scottish Amateur Cup. Two of the last-16 clashes ended all square, with those sides meeting again next week.
The final last-8 berth will go to the team that will eventually emerge from a complex tie held up from an earlier round.
Yesterday’s 4th Round clash between Central Scottish AFL Premier Division sides, Castlemilk Dynamo and Lesmahagow saw the home side edge a close contest 1-0. Dynamo now face a trip to Ayrshire to meet the highly-experienced Shortlees.
Recent cup winners, Tollcross Thistle (Lothian and Edinburgh AFA) patiently await the winner of that tie to allow the completion of the Quarter-Final line-up.
The top-scoring tie of Round 6 saw Annbank (Ayrshire AFA) draw 3-3 at home against East Kilbride Rolls Royce from the Greater Glasgow Premier League. In another all Central Scottish AFL contest, experienced campaigners Steins Thistle and Wishaw High School FP drew 1-1 at Allandale.
Cupar Hearts (Kingdom of Fife AFA) recorded the most emphatic win of the day. They were also the only side to win away from home. Cupar made the long journey to Ayrshire where they defeated Cumnock 3-0.
Aberdeenshire’s Cowie Thistle converted a late penalty against Chryston (Central Scottish AFL) to win 1-0. Two Saturday Morning AFA sides, Tannochside United and East Kilbride Thistle also progressed: Tannochside defeated Neilston (Scottish Amateur League) 3-1; East Kilbride Thistle saw off Greig Park Rangers (Kingdom of Fife AFA) 2-1. In the final tie, Doune Castle (Caledonian League) defeated old adversaries Gartcosh United (Central Scottish AFL) 2-1.
Every one of the sides still in the contest will now eagerly await the forthcoming Quarter-Final draw.
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland’s conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don’t want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
