Forget wandering the duty free aisles – try going for a dip instead.
It turns out that some airports offer customers a bit more than discounted shopping and fast food – they have swimming pools. Big ones.
Some are located within airport hotels, with access free for hotel guests – and open to non-guests for a fee.
But there’s one that’s outside and so close to parked planes you could almost splash them.
Walk-in entry for that stunner comes in at $50 (£40) per person, which isn’t cheap, but surely worth it for the selfie potential.

The VIP lounge in terminal B at Punta Cana International Airport in the Dominican Republic boasts an outdoor swimming pool and terrace with prime views over the runway. It costs $50 (£40) per person to access the lounge, with other amenities such as snacks and alcoholic beverages included
The Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport hotel, located within the main terminal, has a large outdoor heated swimming pool with views to the runway beyond. The pool area is surrounded by a sun deck and shaded lounge area, with cocktails and food available to order. The pool is available to hotel guests from 6am to 11pm. Day-use rooms, which include access to all facilities, start at $109 (£85)
The Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport hotel is home to a heated indoor swimming pool with large windows offering views towards the runway. The pool, which is located on the second floor alongside a gym, is open daily from 6am to 11pm and towels are provided. All of the fitness amenities are available to airport guests for a $15 (£12) fee
At the Aerotel Airport Transit Hotel, located within Singapore’s Changi Airport, there is a rooftop pool, hot tub, poolside bar and showers. Travellers are invited to enjoy the facilities while waiting for their next flight, with entry costing around £10 per person. Access is free of charge for hotel guests. The pool is open from 6am to midnight and located within terminal one
The Vitality Wellbeing & Fitness Centre, within Qatar’s Hamad International Airport, offers a selection of recreational spaces such as indoor swimming pool, hydrotherapy tub, gym and squash courts. There is also a range of spa treatments on offer including anti-jet lag massages and rejuvenating facials. The entrance fee starts from £37
The Novotel Bangkok Airport is a five minute walk from the main terminal area. The hotel offers an abundance of facilities, including eight restaurants, a spa, fitness centre, steam room, sauna and a luxurious swimming pool surrounded by tropical gardens. There is also a swim-up bar within the pool serving up ‘refreshing tropical drinks’. The pool is open from 8am to 10pm. A day pass, which provides access to the pool and gym, starts from around £20
The Pullman Guangzhou Baiyun Airport hotel is ideally located in the heart of the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and the website states that it is ‘just a 15-second walk to Gate 12 of the terminal one departure hall’. The hotel has 578 rooms, three restaurants and bar and a large swimming pool. Travellers can purchase half-day access passes that grant use of the pool and gym facilities
Fairmont Vancouver Airport hotel is the only soundproofed, luxury hotel and spa located within Vancouver International Airport. The complex is situated directly above the U.S. departures terminal and guests do not require a shuttle. The hotel’s health club includes an indoor pool and whirlpool and there are more than 120 spa treatments on offer to reduce jet-lag. Day passes can be purchased, giving travellers access to various hotel facilities
