BYD has received more than 25,000 orders for the 2023 version of the Qin Plus plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), five days after launching it on Feb. 10, according to a statement released Wednesday on Weibo. The base version of the entry-level sedan costs RMB 99,800 ($14,571) and offers a range of 1,245 kilometers (774 miles) on a full tank and charge. The vehicle thus puts further pressure on traditional automakers such as Volkswagen, Caixin reported Thursday. The Warren Buffett-backed EV giant sold 1.86 million vehicles last year, with PHEVs accounting for 50% of total sales and representing a 247% annual increase. [BYD statement, in Chinese]
