U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan appeared skeptical of Sam Bankman-Fried’s push to significantly cut back the government’s criminal case accusing the former billionaire of defrauding consumers of FTX, the now-bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange he once ran.
Bankman-Fried, 31, pleaded not guilty in March to fraud, money laundering, campaign finance and conspiracy charges following his December extradition from the Bahamas. Read more.

Nine women in Nevada have sued comedian Bill Cosby for allegedly sexually assaulting them between 1979 and 1992 in various locations in the state. The complaint arrived just weeks after Nevada enacted a “lookback” law eliminating a two-year window for sexual assault victims to bring civil claims, following the lead of several other states.
Now 85, Cosby was the first celebrity to be convicted in the #MeToo era. He spent three years in a Pennsylvania prison before the state’s Supreme Court threw out his case in 2021. Read more.
