Two foreigners found themselves trapped for several hours at a beach in Nusa Penida due to a sudden high tide after enjoying some cliff jumping. Thankfully, both of them survived the ordeal without a scratch.
According to local reports, the two tourists – who are Russian nationals – were cliff jumping during the day around Blue Lagoon Beach in Nusa Ceningan, Nusa Penida District on Thursday when a high tide abruptly rose and made it impossible for them to climb back up.
Subsequently, they had to swim onshore and sought safety below a cliff as they waited for the tide to turn.
Nusa Penida Police Chief I Gede Redastra said that the two travelers managed to get out of the perilous situation at around 3pm by climbing through a restaurant’s passage nearby.
“Both were safe and sound without suffering any injuries,” he said.
The incident represents another cautionary tale for being vigilant while enjoying Bali’s beaches, as conditions may change at any time. Earlier this month, an Italian woman survived pummeling by a strong wave while enjoying a swim at Klungkung Beach.
Also this month, a teenager lost his life after saving his brother from a sudden current while taking a dip on Double Six Beach in Seminyak.
