Sioux Falls is a city for foodies, evidently.
While a handful of businesses have closed their doors since January 1, including Abelardo’s, Kabab King, Sinless Sweets and the Pickle Barrel, over twenty-five restaurants and bakeries have opened or plan to open this year.
Here is a list of the 27 restaurants across the city that have either opened in or plan to open before the end of 2023:

The Cattitude Cafe recently opened in downtown Sioux Falls, and this coffee shop has a twist. It features a separate room full of adoptable cats from the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society where people can bring their drink to pet and play with the cats. If a customer falls in love, they also have the option to adopt right on the spot.

The gourmet cookie shop opened up on the southeast side of town earlier this year. The menu features four cookie varieties each week. Flavors include chocolate chip, M&M explosion, French toast, sea salt & caramel and frosted sugar.

Credo’s Pub is from the creators of BB’s Pub N Grill, which closed at the end of 2022. This new restaurant opened up early this year at the University Hills Village apartment complex in northwest Sioux Falls. The neighborhood bar features a full menu and multiple TVs, along with a separate room for video lottery.

This Mexican ice cream shop opened in February just west of downtown Sioux Falls. The menu includes sweet treats like homemade ice cream creations, artisanal fruit popsicles, crepes and parfaits as well as Mexican street corn and Michelagua drinks.

Khorasan Kabob House once again reopened its restaurant after switching to a catering model last year. The Afghan restaurant also feature Middle Eastern and West Asian dishes.

Former Abelardo’s partner Samuel Espinoza opened his own restaurant, Los Arcos, in the same spot after Abelardo’s closed at the start of this year. The new Mexican taco restaurant also serves breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, chilaquiles and more.

The Orion Pub opened at the beginning of June. This new bar in downtown Sioux Falls offers a retro feel and has 15 beers on tap along with pizza from Sunny’s Pizzeria.

The owners of The Dive pop-up bar in The Gaslight Lounge have opened a second location in the former Pickle Barrel space in Park Ridge Galleria. The menu includes sandwiches, burgers, salads and craft beer in a more family-friendly environment during lunch.

Smoothie King opened just last month in Empire Place. The country’s largest smoothie franchise features a menu with about 40 ingredients and a dozen nutritional enhancers customers can add to smoothies.

The seasonal dessert stand on 41st Street now has a year-round location in downtown Sioux Falls, in the former Prairie C space. The menu includes rolled ice cream, ice cream cookie sandwiches, Dole Whip cups, push-pops, cake in a cup and more.

A new restaurant serving bubble tea, ramen, poke bowls and sushi burritos opened up last month at Empire Place in front of the Empire Mall. The national franchise also has a variety of other beverages like fruit tea, milk tea, lemonades and smoothies.

Valentino’s made a comeback to the city this winter with a focus on takeout and delivery rather than the dine-in experience. The popular Nebraska-based chain serves Italian dishes like pizza, lasagna, cinnamon breadsticks and garlic bread, as well as pizza-by-the-slice options.

The Windy City Bites food truck expanded to a brick-and-mortar restaurant in February and serves many of the same fan-favorites customers could get on the truck. The menu includes Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, jerk chicken tacos and pizza puffs, as well as a variety of beer and wine.

Planned opening: July 19
The downtown bar has added a second location in southern Sioux Falls, taking over the former’s Cody’s Smokehouse building. There will be a light bar menu, but the focus of the new space is on “drink and entertainment” with games, live music and a wrap-around patio.

Planned opening: July 25
The food truck-turned-restaurant will feature Instagram-worthy smoked meat dishes like sandwiches and burgers with names that are influenced by the owner’s love of skateboarding. The Smoked Culture will also serve wine and 12 taps of beer.

Planned opening: July
From the creation of Fat Kid Filly’s food truck come Fat Kid Pizza, in the Empire Mall. The menu will include grab-and-go slices, whole pizzas and pasta.

Planned opening: August 22
Customers can soon find these baked goods from the Lake Lorraine Farmers Market at a bakery five days a week. Baking Up a Storm is opening inside the new “The Blu” luxury apartment buildings on Lake Lorraine.

The fast-casual chicken franchise is known for its almond wood smoked chicken, wings sandwiches and tenders. This will be the first of three locations planned of Sioux Falls.

Planned opening: Late summer
This coffee tasting room will open later this summer in Sioux Falls. The owners started selling coffee beans online a year ago and are now moving into a century-old building downtown.

Planned opening: Early fall
The Minnesota-based Tavern Grill is opening a Sioux Falls location later with fall. The menu will feature build-your-own burger, salad and pizza options as well as chef-built creations like pastas and sandwiches.

Planned opening: Fall 2023
The Perch is the name of the new restaurant going in the historic form grocery store in the Cathedral District. The restaurant, which has been in the works for two years, will focus on brunch and feature outdoor seating.

Burger Dive is one of three restaurants going in the office tower of the new Steel District development, which is set to open Sept. 1. The restaurants are being developed by Twin City restaurateur Josh Thoma.

Another restaurant going in the Steel District office tower is a lobster-focused restaurant by the same developer. This space will be situated right on the riverfront and feature upscale seafood from Boston.

This Korean barbecue restaurant is opening soon at the Empire Place development in front of the Empire Mall. The restaurant will feature an interactive experience allowing customers to cook their own meat on grill tops at their tables. This will be the first franchise location in South Dakota.
