Travel is such an evocative thing. You see a pic of a gorgeous azure lake or pristine snow-capped mountain somewhere and it’s etched into your mind, where it could dwell for years. You just want to go there and inhabit that picture for real.
Broadsheet’s new hardcover book, Travels is filled with these kinds of moments. It’s a book we hope you’ll flick through for many years to come, planning last-minute weekend getaways, month-long road trips and everything in between.
Inside there are 60 core destinations and experiences: postcard-perfect beaches, convivial country pubs, scenic day hikes, private islands for hire, remote thermal springs, luxe tropical hotels, isolated clifftop cottages, regional art galleries and more. We made sure to leave out dry details like opening hours and prices. Travels is purposely stripped down to just the essentials.
Each succinct entry explains what the place or experience is, why we think you’ll love it, and a beautiful yet honest photo that you might commit to memory on the spot. (It happened to us.) Some are quick and easy, like visiting a standout fish’n’chip shop or walking trail. Others cover entire regions, such as Margaret River or Arnhem Land, and contain enough suggestions to plan an entire week around.
Eleven special features round up the country’s best wine regions, destination hotels, cottages and cabins, arts festivals and more. And, this being a Broadsheet book, each capital city is also covered in depth with recommendations for where to eat, drink, shop and stay.
We’ve always highlighted local food, fashion, art, music and other types of culture – it’s what we do. We’re thrilled to have brought all these pieces together in a single hardcover book that captures Australia’s contemporary spirit. We hope you will be too.
Travels, published by Plum, retails for $54.99. The book is available through all good book stores and at shop.broadsheet.com.au.
