TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The West Java Police’s general crime investigation directorate has officially detained three notable figures from the self-proclaimed “royals” of the Sunda Empire on charges of spreading lies and committing fraud.
“We have arrested all of them. Formally, they face charges more than five-year imprisonment,” said West Java Police Spokesman, Grand Commissioner Saptono Erlangga on Wednesday, January 29.
The three Sunda Empire figures had been jailed since January 28, which comprise; self-proclaimed grand prime minister Nasri Bank, royal imperial highness Ratna Ningrum and its general secretary Rangga Sasana. As the investigation progresses, police said new suspects could possibly be named.
“The suspects can increase if enough evidence is found,” said Saptono.
Based on the police’s brief investigation that lasted for two weeks, the head honchos of the Sunda Empire had been proven guilty of fraud related to the region’s actual Sundanese Empire history that could potentially cause a public disturbance.
The former Sunda Empire leaders will also be charged with Article 228 and 229 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) upon the misuse of official government ranks.
